Privacy Policy

Last updated: November 6, 2026

This policy explains what information FairNote handles, why, and what choices you have. FairNote is an Android notes app. It does not require an account, does not show ads, and does not use advertising or analytics services.

Who is responsible

FairNote is developed and operated by an independent developer based in Canada. Full developer details are available on our Google Play listing. For any privacy question or request, contact us using the details in the Contact section.

Your notes and images

Notes, checklists, labels, reminders, and images you add are stored in the app's local storage on your device. This content is not sent to us. If you choose to encrypt a note, its content and images are stored encrypted with AES-256 encryption; the note title remains readable so you can scan your list.

You are responsible for your encryption password. If you lose it, encrypted notes cannot be recovered.

Optional error reports

FairNote can send error reports to help diagnose crashes and bugs. Error reporting is on by default and can be turned off at any time in the app under Settings → Behavior → Report errors. When enabled, an error report is sent to our server at fairnote.net over HTTPS and may contain:

  • Device information: manufacturer, brand, model, product, hardware, display, OS version, and API level
  • App version code and version name
  • Whether the app build is a debug build
  • A short error description and, where applicable, a technical stack trace

Error reports do not include your note titles, note content, images, encryption password, or account credentials. They are used only to find and fix defects, and are kept no longer than 12 months. We do not use them for advertising or profiling.

Backups and cloud services

Backups are optional and only happen when you start one or enable automatic backup. You choose the destination: Google Drive, Dropbox, Yandex Disk, WebDAV, or a local file. When you use a cloud provider, your data is transferred directly to that provider and is handled under that provider's privacy policy. We do not receive, access, or store your backup files or your provider credentials.

Purchases

Pro purchases and subscriptions are processed by Google Play. We receive the purchase status needed to unlock Pro features, but we do not receive your payment card details or billing address.

What we do not do

  • We do not require an account or sign-in.
  • We do not show ads.
  • We do not use advertising or analytics SDKs.
  • We do not sell, rent, or share your data with advertisers or data brokers.
  • We do not read your notes or images.

Legal bases (EEA and UK)

Where the GDPR or UK GDPR applies, we process error-report data on the basis of our legitimate interest in keeping the app stable and secure. You can object to this processing at any time by turning off error reporting or by contacting us. Where we rely on consent, you may withdraw it at any time.

Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, delete, restrict, or object to the processing of your personal data, and to data portability. To make a request, contact us using the details in the Contact section. You can also turn off error reporting in the app, which stops new error reports from being sent. If you believe we have not handled your data lawfully, you may complain to your local data protection authority.

Children

FairNote is a general-audience app and is not directed to children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. Because the app has no account and no profile, it does not build user profiles.

Security

Error reports are sent over HTTPS. Notes can be encrypted at rest with AES-256 encryption, and encrypted notes stay encrypted in backups. No system is perfectly secure, so keep a backup of anything you cannot afford to lose.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, we will update the date at the top of this page. If a change materially affects how data is handled, we will describe it here before it takes effect.
